Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle challenge: COMPLETE!
From Me to You Co-founder, Alison Hitchcock, and her cycling pal, Siobhan, have completed their epic challenge - cycling 1,035 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise almost £12,000 of vital funds for our work!!
They started on 1st September 2025 and it took them 21 days of straight cycling (well, we let them sleep in between!) to get to the end.
Pushing pedals and physical boundaries in equal measure, they were faced with some challenging weather (inc. 25mph winds on the last day) and in their own words, some “Very hilly hills”. Not to mention the physical impact of cycling so many miles every day without a break.
On their second day, they climbed 3500ft - almost the height of Snowdon, day four saw Siobhan’s pedals snap clean off, they managed to overcome four chain failures, four punctures and some very tough cycling conditions, including pushing their bikes across fields! BUT, they did it - and they got to the end with smiles on their faces (and a few tears in their eyes at the magnitude of what they had achieved).
For many, cycling the length of the UK is a once-in-a-lifetime test of endurance, grit, and determination. For Alison, it’s also a personal mission to raise awareness of our work - the work that she started - whilst raising much-needed funds to help us reach and support more people facing cancer.
Alison says; “I’ve done a lot of really bonkers things to raise money for FMTY in the past, but this challenge was something else. I’m still in shock that we managed it because there were times when it felt impossible; the logistics, the training, the intense physical strain. But, when the goal isn’t about you, but about helping others, it takes on a different meaning.
There were occasions when my legs were so tired that the thought of getting back on the bike made me want to cry, but I knew that I couldn’t give up. The pain is nothing compared to what the people we exist to help are going through. It makes it quite trivial really - which is great as it meant that we had to make it to the end, regardless. And the amount of money raised for our work has blown us away. THANK YOU to everyone who made these 21 days worth it: because of you, we can brighten the days of even more people facing cancer.”
